Will my mom be released from psych ward after 48 hours? -- Please?

Best answer: I can answer your question.
I used to do psychiatric intake work at a good mental health hospital for decades and admissions was my primary job.
Your mother's condition is very serious and it didn't take 48 hours for her to get this way and she cannot be "cured" in 48 hours.
How long your mother will remain in the hospital depends on two things:
1) The severity of her condition and
2) Her willingness to remain in the hospital for the treatment she needs.

PLEASE! DO NOT TELL YOUR MOTHER TO COME HOME....wait until the doctor says she is READY TO COME HOME. If you whine and cry to her to come home before she is ready to be released, her suicide may be successful and you will loose your mother. So PLEASE use some common sense and don't just think of yourself and what you want....think about what she needs right now to get well.

Psychiatric hospitalization is just like hospitalization for any illness, injury or disease. This is very serious and the patient (your Mom) needs a ton of support from everyone. She will get 100% support in the psychiatric hospital and will receive rest, care and comfort. She will be with professional doctors, nurses, psychologists and mental health aids who will support her 24/7 and help her to work on her problems and become strong and recover.
Isn't this what you want for her?
48 hours isn't going to do any good if she is actively suicidal with a plan to kill herself.
DO NOT URGE HER TO COME HOME until the DOCTOR is ready to release her.....understand?

nope, the shortest amount of time someone is usually released from a psych ward is about a week or two

Only if she's well enough to be released.

don't rush her . she may need a few more days or weeks .
